Founded in December of 2017 by the late Bob Lamb, Ruth Stage is a bold and maverick nonprofit theatre company devoted to reimagining and reinventing classic works for modern audiences. Led by a fearless commitment to provocative, high end, actor driven theatre, the company breathes new life into time honored texts, crafting psychologically rich, viscerally charged productions that challenge theatrical norms and disrupt the status quo.

We believe the classics are not relics. They are living, breathing stories meant to confront, provoke and resonate. Through fearless reinterpretation and a refusal to play it safe, Ruth Stage creates theatre that is daring, intimate and unflinchingly honest. Our work doesn't just revive the canon, it redefines it. In particular we explore the mental health conditions embedded in iconic characters, focusing on conditions such as PTSD, alcoholism, depression and personality disorders excavating the raw physical truth beneath surface of the texts by legendary playwrights including Shakespeare, Tennessee Williams and Edward Albee.

Beyond the stage, Ruth Stage is committed to making a broader social impact. In the past we have proudly partnered with veteran and cancer organizations through our productions to raise awareness and support causes that extend beyond the theatre community - using the power of storytelling to connect, heal and inspire.
